Our Dental Team
Dr. Ruth Murphy,
Dental Surgeon.
Ruth qualified from University College, Cork in 1990. Following further post graduate training and work experience in the UK, Ruth returned to Ireland and gained further experience in a number of practices in Cork and Clare. Ruth then fulfilled her ambition to set up her own practice in a landmark Art Deco building on the Dublin Rd in Castletroy in 1994.
The practice was the first dental practice in Castletroy and grew quickly. Ruth opened a new purpose built surgery on the same premises in 1999 –2000, which included additional surgeries, X-ray room and the most up to date patient and staff facilities.
The practice has continued to grow with a reputation for quality and patient care and has an excellent location for those working and living in the Castletroy, UL, and Plassey areas.
Ruth has undertaken a wide range of further training throughout her career. She completed a post graduate diploma in restorative Dentistry in Trinity College, Dublin and in 2018/2019 completed further post graduate training in Contemporary Restorative Dentistry in Birmingham UK.
Ruth is committed to providing the most up to date treatment in a calm relaxed environment.
Ruth has a particular interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Patricia McCoy,
Dental Surgeon.
Patricia studied dentistry at University College Cork and graduated with honours in 1994. After working in general practice in Kent and Surrey in the UK for 15 years, gaining a wide range of invaluable experience, she returned home to Limerick in 2009 and joined Ruth at Castletroy Dental Clinic.
Patricia enjoys all aspects of general dental practice and has always been passionate about putting patients at ease while providing the very best dental care. As a mother of two, Patricia understands the importance of a friendly environment for our younger patients.
Patricia keeps her skills and knowledge up to date with regular dental seminars and courses. She is a member of the Irish Dental Association.
Finbarr O’ Sullivan,
Dental Surgeon.
Finbarr attained his qualification in Liverpool in the UK in 2005.
Finbarr gained two years experience with the UK’s National Health Service before spending four years in private practice in Ireland with us here at Castletroy Dental Clinic.
Finbarr has a passion for continuing education completing no less than three courses on Occlusion at the world renowned Pankey institute in Miami, Florida USA. He has also completed a postgraduate certificate in clinical restorative cosmetic dentistry.
Finbarr has spent the last 10 years working in private practice on Australia’s Sunshine Coast where he developed a major interest in placing and restoring Dental implants. He has embraced cutting edge technology incorporating 3D printing into his practice. This has resulted in him travelling to both North and South America for advanced training.
Finbarr has a keen interest in his patient’s overall health and treats them with a holistic approach. Whether it’s recognising the signs of childhood sleep apnoea or treating migraine or muscular issues in adults, these issues are fundamental to a patient well-being and also the cause of many dental problems. Finbarr receives a great deal of satisfaction and fulfilment when helping relieve someone of pain or guiding them on their journey to dental health
Finbarr is married and has three young children. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors with his family.
Maggie Bourke,
Dental Hygienist.
Maggie has been a key member of our practice team since 2005, in her role as a Dental Hygienist, focused on providing regular dental cleanings, treatment for gum disease, and
oral hygiene education.
Maggie is an accomplished hygienist with over 27 years’ experience, having gained extensive experience working in both the UK and in Ireland before joining our team. Maggie has a proven record in delivering comprehensive dental care essential to patients’ overall oral health.
Maggie qualified from University College Cork in 1997, having been awarded the Castellini Award for demonstrating best clinical work in her year. She continues to focus on her professional development which has included relevant courses in Guys Hospital London and in the Dublin Dental Hospital in Trinity College. Maggie also worked for many years providing dental care to adult service users with special needs at the Bawnmore Centre in Limerick.
Over her many years in our practice, Maggie has been recognised for her warm chairside
manner, taking pride in creating a comfortable environment for patients of all ages. Maggie
has built lasting relationships with her patients through a combination of expertise, empathy
and a non-judgmental attitude, and extends a warm welcome to all new patients.
Louise Fleming,
Dental Hygienist.
Louise graduated as a Dental Hygienist from University College Cork (UCC) in 2011, and brings over 20 years of experience in dentistry, having started her career as a dental nurse in 2003. In 2021, she was a finalist for Kin Hygienist of the Year.
Having worked with us previously, we were delighted to welcome Louise back to Castletroy Dental Clinic in 2023, after some years spent living & working in Cork.
With a passion for dental hygiene, Louise enjoys building strong relationships with her patients. Louise also specialises in placing fissure sealants on molar(back) teeth for children, which is an excellent option to protect children’s permanent teeth from decay.
She has also collaborated with Special Olympics Ireland, attending events to educate athletes on optimal oral hygiene practices. Her dedication to professional development is evident in her regular attendance at dental conferences, and she has chaired events for the IDHA and the Irish Dental Association.
Louise is an active member of the Irish Dental Hygienists Association (IDHA), where she served as president for a two-year term from 2014-2016, and has also held the roles of secretary and membership officer. Committed to furthering her education, she is currently working towards a Level 7 diploma in Autism Studies from UCC.
Our Dentists Ruth, Patricia, Finbarr and our Dental Hygienist Maggie and Louise are supported in the practice by a highly experienced team of dental nurses and support staff.
