Our services

At Castletroy Dental Clinic we strive to make treatment as relaxed and caring as possible for our patients. We provide both private and PRSI treatment.

Dental examination:

A dental examination will include a full examination, dental x-rays where indicated, discussion of your dental treatment required and treatment costs. A full dental examination includes:

  • Examination of the Head, Neck and Jaw.
  • Examination of the Mouth, Soft tissue, gum and tongue.
  • Examination of the teeth for decay, fractures or excessive tooth wear.
  • Examination of the health of the gums and bone supporting the teeth.

Dental x-rays:

Ruth and PatriciaSometimes Dental x-rays are required during a dental examination. Dental x-rays allow us to examine areas of the mouth and teeth that are not visible through visual examination. Dental x-rays can provide a huge amount of extra information:

  • Showing hidden dental decay.
  • Revealing the condition of existing fillings, crowns, bridges and root canals.
  • Identifying and measuring bone loss from serious gum (periodontal) disease.
  • Revealing dental abscesses, cysts, tumours or impacted teeth.

At Castletroy Dental Clinic all x-rays are taken using the most modern digital x-ray sensors, which allow for the minimum level of radiographic exposure.

Dental hygiene and gum treatment:

Here at Castletroy Dental Clinic we realise that good oral hygiene is vital for good oral health. Our dentists screen all patients during the dental examination for gum disease and treatment is provided by either the dentist or our dental hygienist.

A professional clean should be carried out every 6 months.

Fillings and extractions:

Unfortunately tooth decay does occur. It is important that decay is detected and treated as early as possible the dentist will discuss and advise on the best type of filling for your tooth. White (tooth) fillings are predominantly used nowadays.

Occasionally a tooth requires extraction, this will be discussed and planned with you and made as easy and painless as possible for you.

Crowns and bridges:

A crown is required if a tooth is very heavily filled or badly broken down. A crown fits on over the prepared tooth and gives it strength. A crown will look like the original tooth. A crown can be made from a metal alloy, ceramic or a combination of both. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by using the support from the adjacent teeth and is fixed in position.

Fissure sealants:

Fissure sealants are a painless preventive treatment to prevent tooth decay. A liquid is bonded to the tooth surface and seals the tooth surface, protecting from decay.

Tooth Whitening:

Professional tooth whitening is very safe and successful when performed by the dentist. Custom trays are made for each patient, allowing whitening to be done at home using whitening gels supplied by the dentist which whiten your teeth and do not cause any damage to the teeth or gums.

Root canal treatment:

Ruth and Patricia at Castletroy Dental ClinicRoot canal treatment may be required if the nerve of the tooth has died or if the tooth is very painful. The dentist cleans the centre of the tooth with small precision instruments, then shapes and fills the middle of the tooth with a rubbery material to save it. Root canal treatment is usually painless and can provide a lot of pain relief if the tooth has been painful.

Dentures:

If you have several missing teeth dentures may be required to replace these. Acrylic and cobalt chrome dentures are an option.

Dental implants:

Dental implants are a permanent placement for the root portion of your missing natural tooth. The dental implant is surgically placed out of sight below the gum line and attaches rigidly to the jaw bone. The implant can be used to support a single crown, a bridge of multiple units or a denture firmly in place. Dental implants are made from titanium which is tolerated and integrates easily with bone tissue. In order to be suitable to have dental implants fitted, patients need very health bone levels. A CT scan will determine the bone thickness and quality.  Here in Castletroy Dental Clinic Dr Finbarr O’Sullivian provides  Dental implant options in clinic. He has completing extensive training in the area of Dental implantology over the past 10 years.
